I Am From Camp Trinity

I am from the 7:00 AM bell

from the Earth Balance “butter” and Tabasco sauce

I am from the musty paint smell of the silk screening room

I am from the annoying poison oak

The old apple tree whose long limbs I remember as if they were my own

I’m from the County Barbecue and the Harvest Festival

from Grover Gates and Amos Moses

I am from the silly Un-talent shows and the quiet vespers

and from the cries of the last campfire

I’m from “jump Bear jump” and “no closed circles” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane”.

I’m from everyday looking at the chalk board to see if I have a package and hoping and praying that I have mail

I’m from the swimming hole and cold showers and the creaky floor boards on the platforms

Erin’s Lasagna and the classic first night spaghetti and meatballs

from Xochitl running with her pal Beadie onto friendship hill and chasing the deer

The deer outrunning them

Bear, the old dog, and the cats running about the place will always have a spot in my heart
