Camping From Afar

view from bigfoot houseSince announcing the cancellation of our kids camp sessions, we’ve heard from countless campers, parents, alumni, and staff who are longing for the community, rituals, and connection with nature that are the foundations of time on the ranch. We know that no remote programming can replace the in-person camp experience, but we’re planning some activities, updates, and events that we’re hoping can help us all keep the camp spirit alive. Throughout the summer, we’ll be sharing information on our social media accounts (Facebook and Instagram) and through our website blog.

A quick disclaimer: this is a first for us! “Camping from afar” is really not our bread and butter. We’re much more accustomed to gathering tools for ranch projects, saddling up horses, untangling embroidery thread for friendship bracelets, and packing food for overnights. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we try to navigate our way through this project. As you know, we believe that camp provides a vital respite from the digital culture that has become an imposing presence for many children (and adults!). We want to balance our desire to bring our community together with our belief that kids (and adults!) should be free to disconnect and get outside as much as possible.

We look forward to sharing our ideas with you and welcome any feedback or suggestions you have for ways you’d like to feel connected to Camp.

We will compile resources here, so check back often and have fun!

  • Hey guys! I was a camper for many years, and then came back to work in the kitchen for two years. I am heart broken for the campers, staff, and counselors who missed out on camp these year, though of course the safety of the camp community rightfully needs to come first. I’m also always happy to receive updates from Bar 717 – brings back so many great memories of zorching, eating fried bread, and dancing to Popcorn 🙂
